@albert7777777: If the Quran is true, then why does it get historical figures wrong. I’m confused

1- You’re assuming that ‘Haman’ in the Qur’an must be the same Haman from the Book of Esther just because the names match. That’s a false equivalence. Names repeat across cultures and eras, and a shared name doesn’t make them the same historical person. So the argument collapses from the start

1- The Haman discussion is being framed incorrectly. The Qur’an does not claim to be a copy of the Bible or the Torah, nor does it ask to be judged by how closely it aligns with them. Comparing three independent scriptures and then calling the differences “errors” is a category mistake. If the Qur’an matched the Bible exactly, it would be dismissed as derivative; when it differs, it is accused of being wrong. That standard is unfalsifiable. In the case of Haman, the strongest claim that can be made historically is simply that his identity cannot be independently verified outside the Qur’an, not that the Qur’an is proven wrong. More importantly, focusing on Haman misses the real issue entirely, because the Qur’an repeatedly diverges from the Bible on far more central figures, most notably Jesus, and does so systematically and coherently: in the Bible Jesus is the Son of God, part of a Trinity, crucified for original sin, and his miracles often emphasize divine sonship, whereas in the Qur’an Jesus is explicitly human, a prophet and Messiah, born miraculously without a father, performing miracles by God’s permission, not crucified, and never claiming divinity, while still being one of the greatest messengers. These are not minor historical slips but foundational theological differences, and they prove the Qur’an is not trying to align itself with Biblical tradition at all. If someone accepts that the Qur’an can radically diverge from the Bible on Jesus is arguably the most important figure in Christian theology is without being accused of confusion, then singling out Haman as a “mistake” is inconsistent. The real question is not whether the Qur’an agrees with earlier scriptures, but how a 7th-century Arabian man could produce a text with such confident independence, internal coherence, and systematic correction of dominant religious narratives rather than imitation of them.

this is not a contradiction, it’s a miracle. The Quran mentions the name of an Ancient Egyptian figure “Haman” who was only discovered in the 19th century by historians. This is NOT the same figure from the book of Esther.

Actually, the discovery of the 'Egyptian Haman' is a famous historical find. For years, people thought Haman was only a Persian name from the Book of Esther. But when hieroglyphics were finally decoded in the 19th century, a stone slab (stela) was found in the Vienna Museum from the time of the Pharaohs. It lists a high-ranking official named Haman (transliterated as hmn-h), and his title was 'Chief of the Stone-Quarry Workers.' This perfectly matches the Quran (28:38), where Pharaoh specifically orders Haman to build a tower out of baked clay. The Quran didn't get it wrong—it revealed a historical figure that was forgotten for 1,000 years until modern archaeology found him. Also read 29 30 and 40 to learn more about Haman.

The book of Esther cannot serve as evidence at all. The Qur’an speaks about Haman from the time of Moses, which means he was a man who lived in the era of Moses. The fact that there is no information about him does not mean that he did not exist

In the Qur'anic narrative, Haman is the Chief Minister or Vizier to the Pharaoh during the time of Prophet Musa (Moses). He is portrayed as Pharaoh’s "right-hand man" and is mentioned six times. The Hieroglyphic Discovery: In the late 20th century, researchers (notably Dr. Maurice Bucaille) looked into ancient Egyptian records. They found an inscription in the Hof Museum in Vienna (and listed in the Dictionary of Personal Names of the New Kingdom) mentioning a man named "Haman" who was the "Chief of the Stone-Quarry Workers."

There is nothing wrong with the Qur’an; the problem arises when it is studied without proper guidance from a qualified teacher or scholar, which can lead to misunderstanding and misdirection.
