If your scalp gets oily, you use a lot of dry shampoo or you have a lot of product buildup, you may need sulfates or a clarifying shampoo. If you wash daily or your scalp gets dry easily, maybe you use a sulfate free shampoo most of the time and something stronger once a week or whenever you actually need it. Some people need to shampoo twice every wash. Some only need to do it after going several days without washing. Sulfates are not automatically bad and sulfate free shampoos are not automatically better. It completely depends on your scalp, your products and how often you wash.
