It just delays it. As a parent, my second biggest fear is that someone might try to do harm to my kids. My biggest fear is worse… it’s my kids feeling helpless in that moment. Frozen. Waiting. Believing there’s nothing they can do. I’m not trying to give my kids perfect answers. Nothing ever goes perfectly. I’m not trying to scare them or turn them into something they’re not. What I wanted was to give them options. Tools. A way to think. Something to fall back on when thinking is hard. Action instead of inaction. Movement instead of freezing.
