I’m 39 years old, when I was 21-25 bars, clubs, restaurants would be packed full of young people. Mixed drinks were like $6, shots $2, a beer was like $3, margaritas for a large were like $7. You could get a dinner and a couple drinks for dirt cheap. A good night out with $30 was all you needed. Nowadays, young people can’t afford what we millennials had at their age. A large margarita alone is like $15, a shot can be $8, a beer is like $6, etc… and what’s CRAZY is our wages back then were pretty much the same wages today. Wages haven’t changed much. But restaurants today it’s a mix of young and old, I haven’t seen a change in my area except downtown where once used to be packed full of young people has significantly decreased over the last 5-10 years. It’s sad.

Yeah, that generation complains that young people shouldn't have disposable income because it will raise prices, but forgot that the economy needs disposable income to move product. And now we have "Millenials/Gen Z killed the [] industry!" newlines everywhere

Its a downward spiral. Restaurants will have to cater to the older crowd. The young people won't go, because that restaurant is catered to old people now. Then the old people die, not all at once but slowly. Slow enough that the restaurant doesn't notice a sudden downturn where they know they need to pivot. They lose money thinking its just a bad month until its too late to pivot. Restaurant closes.

Last time I went to dinner it ended up being $100. No alcohol and I had a freaking salad. I haven't been to a restaurant since then

This makes my millennial heart hurt. I remember having food and booze money for restaurants and bars throughout my 20’s. Drinks are like $15 now.

2.6 million boomers die every year and that is going to start rapidly climbing and cap out at 2036. Within 10 years we are going to have a substantially different society because 3/4 of them will be gone.

They don’t want us to have any money. This is by design. They literally actively don’t want us in “their” spaces. If they wanted us to have money, they’d be up in arms about us not having money and since they are the ones with money help make things better.

A lot of people under 40 are not drinking anymore. There is no reason to go to a bar.
