from a legal standpoint the only thing that matters is axle weight rating tire weight rating and license plate weight ratings on both truck and trailer

The best thing to do is to install a weighsafe hitch (scale in it) that shows the load on your hitch and to stop at a Cat Scale when getting on the road. This way, if you get pulled over or involved in an accident, you can show the status of the vehicles, and you'll also know your loading (and bring the necessary correction if needed)
