In college the fire alarm went off in the morning while I was showering. I stepped out and there was smoke. I had to go outside in a towel, in February, in upstate NY. My hair froze! Fortunately it was short lived but it was cold!

I have a duffel bag full of important documents and things ready to go. My roommate and I also had an emergency preparedness talk we discussed different responses to different emergencies. Better be safe than sorry. Stay safe 🤗

THE STORY OF THE REAL LION KING 🦁 Monitoring this male lion on a daily basis @leo.africa is an absolute pleasure and privilege. He was introduced on Abelana Game Reserve in July 2022, because the resident male lion unfortunately passed away. This also meant that a new gene was brought into the reserve - a very important step towards genetic diversity of the resident lion population. As during all of the reintroduction, he needed some time to adapt to the reserve, to get to know the other lions present and to the presence of vehicles. It took us about six months of careful work to get him accustomed to the vehicle. The interaction with the resident pride was very interesting and intense; this gave the opportunity to collect very valuable data and study closely their behaviour. Each animal has a different character and it can really be seen by dedicating a lifetime of observation. For example, although at the beginning he was very shy when he was alone, when he was spending time trying to bond with the pride, he wouldn’t mind our presence too much, as his focus was on the other lions. This interaction surely gave us the opportunity to observe him and get him more relaxed. In the past two years, the dynamic of the pride consolidated and he also formed a coalition with two younger males. He is currently the dominant male of the reserve! ~~~~~ This video was taken a couple of days ago, while he was lying down on an elevated sandhill, watching the surrounding area with the wind blowing through his mane… The sighting became even better when actually a beautiful rainbow started to appear behind the rocks of the koppies, on a backdrop of an orange and purple sunset sky!
