5 things I wish I’d known before knee surgery: 1️⃣ Progress doesn’t mean you’ll feel better every day. You can hit a huge milestone and feel amazing, then realise just how much further you still have to go. Getting off my crutches at 12 weeks was a massive achievement, but it also made me realise how far away I still was from being able to do everything I wanted to do. 2️⃣ Sleeping is HARD. Trying to sleep with a leg brace, having to stay on your back and waking up every time you move into an awkward position was something I massively underestimated. 3️⃣ Getting dressed becomes a skill. I never thought putting on socks and shoes would be difficult, but there were times I genuinely needed someone to help me. A shoehorn became my best friend 😂 4️⃣ Sunny days can actually be harder. I knew I’d miss running, Hyrox and training, but I didn’t realise how much harder sunny weather would make things. I just wanted to be outside walking, hiking or doing everything I normally would. Rainy days? Weirdly easier. 5️⃣ Sometimes, if you don’t choose to slow down, your body will do it for you. I’ve always found it difficult to slow down, but this injury forced me to. And although I obviously wouldn’t choose to go through it again, it’s taught me a lot about actually listening to my body. If you’re heading into knee surgery, I hope this gives you a little insight into the things nobody really talks about. 💚 #kneeoperation #kneesurgery #kneeinjury #injury #recovery
