@theparrotlady: Recently, a commonly held opinion was voiced to me…That birds shouldn’t be in cages. Let me start by saying that I AGREE! Birds should NOT be kept as pets and should NOT be caged. However, until legislation is passed preventing the sale keeping of birds, breeders will continue to flood the market with domestic birds. Domesticated birds CANNOT be just let loose to fly. Because they have been hand raised and their food and water provided by their breeders and owners, they lack the basic skills to fly high and find their own food and water. So when I get someone reaches out and says they are tired of their pet bird and asks if they should just let them go, the answer will always be a resounding NO! They will not survive in the wild and you are NOT doing them a favor. I hope this post is well received and helps drive home the point that a domesticated animal will rarely survive in the wild.
