The fact that I actually already know all of this makes me so proud of myself. Also me and my twin sister want a Louis sitcom and it’s really just the two of us taking the absolute mick out of Louis and his courtiers as they act in the background. We actually would walk for to and from college everyday just making jokes about Louis. It was so much fun. 😅

you skipped the most unhinged part. He hated when people needed to use the bathroom, so if you did so and he was aware of it it would destroy your standing with him and this thus the aristocracy

The reason why Louis XIV expanded the palace in the first place was because his financial minister, Nicolas Fouquet, had a prettier castle than him, so Louis had him arrested and then started expanding Versailles.

Every time people forgett a little, anecdotical thing : hundreds thousands of workers during decades died during the building of the castle, especialy when they dried the enourmous "Stinky Swamp", diging the canal and buulding a useless aquaduct for fountains... (yes I'm a french Robespierre's minion 💅)

Louis XIV wasn't just one of the longest-reigning monarchs in French history, he's the longest-reigning momarch (verifiable) in the history of the world. unless you count that guy from Swaziland, but he didn't rule an independent state.
