This week I’ve kind of taken a step back because when I get overwhelmed and busy sometimes the reason I do all of this gets lost in the chaos. Fostering dogs is fun and volunteering is fun but I don’t think we talk enough about how draining it can be too. There are vet appointments, chewed up doors, kennel training and rotating dogs. There are dogs I meet who only have 24 hours left to live. At the same time I still have a personal life. I have kids, sports, dinners to cook and health stuff of my own. Life moves so fast it’s almost scary and these past few days I needed a minute to remember why I do what I do. Volunteering and fostering feels different when a lot of people are watching compared to when I did it with no Instagram and no audience. I love sharing this journey so much, to help and inspire others to step up for the dogs. I’ve always loved being authentically myself but sometimes I catch myself worrying too much about how people online might react. I find myself not wanting to meet as many euthanasia listed dogs because I’m scared they won’t make it out and I’m scared of the comments even though the outcome is completely out of my hands. I worry about a foster getting sick and somehow being blamed for it. They’re all okay lol. Anyways this is really just a reminder to myself that I have loved dogs for as long as I can remember. Helping them is something I truly have a passion for and I never want the noise around what I do to become louder than the reason I started doing it.
