No ma'am. You say 8:50, I'm calling you by 9 and the police by 9:30.

As a parent, I don’t get this at all. We’ll be back when we say we’ll be back. The ONE time we anticipated a late return from a three car pile up on the highway home we called her, gave her a new ETA, said we’d pay her overtime, and apologized. It’s not hard

I always warned people it’s $50 for the first 30 mins late and $100 after that. They make sure they’re on time. Lol.

Have a contract where your rate doubles if they aren’t back when they say.

Emergency or not, if they didn't contact you to tell you what is going on, it's abandonment and you would be well within your duty to contact the police

I work in a daycare and we charge parents $2 for every minute they’re late past pick up with $25 added when an hour is hit. So if someone is an hour late, they’re charged $145. I’m not saying have a policy quite that strict but your time is valuable, charge a late fee. It is extremely common in child care and babysitting should be no different

"Don't make plans when babysitting" hey so she clearly set it up so they wouldn't overlap, she isn't at fault here!

like, I absolutely do not mind sitting longer, but I expect that communicated, and if it's going to be longer than like 15-20 minutes, I expect to be paid a bit more for my time-

When I was 15, my uncle asked me to babysit his at the time 3 year old daughter. He said he’d be home around 10 and he ended up coming home at like 3:30 am 💀 and I had school the next day

Contact when late. Can't reach them or it's been over an hour? Call the police.

Charge extra for the time past agreed upon. I found parents would come home on time generally when the rate went up.

I think most people assume that you have nothing going on or planned. They most definitely should not think that way. I'd just tell them you have plans after and that you can't break them.
