The First Question God Asked Humanity: Where Are You? Did you know this? After Adam and Eve turned away from God, the first question God asked humanity was not a question of blame. It was simply: “Where are you?” Genesis 3:9 says: “And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?”KJV Of course, God knew where Adam was. He knew Adam was hiding among the trees in the garden. He knew he was afraid. He knew he was ashamed. He knew Adam had begun to hide from Him. So this question was not really about Adam’s location. It was about Adam’s heart. And have you ever thought about this? From the fall of mankind until today, God has not stopped calling out to people with the same question: “Where are you?” Have you gone a long time without quiet prayer? Have you been so busy with life that you have slowly drifted away from God? Is your heart tired, but you do not know how to come back to Him? Have you fallen, and now you feel afraid to draw near to God again? But remember this: When God asks, “Where are you?” it is not because He does not know where you are. It is because He is still looking for you. He does not come first to condemn you. He comes first to call your heart back. What God values is a heart that is willing to return. Just like the prodigal son, when he came home, his father did not first stand there to shame him. He saw him from a long way off, ran to him, and embraced him. So when you hear this question again: “Where are you?” May your heart answer: Lord, I am here. I want to draw near to You again. I want to pray again. I want to seek You again. I want to come back to You. Lord, I am not perfect, but my heart still wants to return to You. If you are willing to respond, write this in the comments: “Lord, I am here.” Perhaps this one share will remind someone who has drifted away that God has not forgotten them, and He is still waiting for them to come home.
