Hands-on math just clicks differently. In this lesson we practiced adding three-digit numbers in expanded form using wooden place value blocks for the hundreds, tens, and ones. My son could build both numbers, add them piece by piece, and actually see how place value works. For many kids, writing can make math harder than it needs to be. When handwriting mistakes slow them down, it doesn’t mean they don’t understand the concept. That’s why I’ll often write the problems in the workbook for my kids. They get a clear record of their work to look back on—without letting writing frustrations get in the way of mastering the math skill. Using math manipulatives + workbook practice is such a powerful way to help kids understand place value and addition. #homeschoolers #homeschoolmath #formerteacher
