Why it matters: - Vaginal tissue absorbs directly into the bloodstream, no first-pass liver metabolism - The average user goes through 7,400+ tampons over a lifetime - There is no known safe level of lead exposure Manufacturers are not required to test finished tampons for heavy metals before sale. The FDA only opened its review in September 2024. Full results, brand names, and ppb levels are on the Oasis app.
