![There’s a difference between being unrealistic about the work and being completely delusional about what the work could eventually become. You need the second one. Because before anything works, there’s usually a period where it looks like it won’t. Nobody sees it. Nobody understands it. The numbers don’t reflect it. The opportunities aren’t there yet. And sometimes, even you have no evidence that you’re right. That’s where most people become reasonable. They lower the expectation. They choose something safer. They start preparing for it not to happen. But sometimes you need a level of self-belief that makes absolutely no sense to anybody except you.
