This makes me appreciate the progress we’ve made with representation in fashion advertising recently!

As a plus size girl who loves vintage clothing (primally 1950s-1980s), it's so hard finding authentic pieces that can fit me. I went to huge vintage vendor sale looking for a 1970s dress. For the first hour I was in tears, not being able to find anything. Thankfully I found one dress that I loved!!

It’s so hard to find vintage clothes in larger sizes. Everything I do find is super frumpy.

Ive been looking at Edwardian clothes and art and even there it kinda stunned me how many plus size patterns there were as well as tips on how to modify patterns for a “fuller figure”. It was so nice to find

I have my grandmothers black 100% cashmere coat from the 1960’s!! She was plus size! I wear it all the time! It looks brand new. 🙂. I wish I knew the story behind the coat.

I guess from an advertising and promotion perspective, we haven’t generally seen much change - plus size brands largely feature the smallest end of their size chart in imagery. It’s still hard to know how the same clothes will look in their largest available sizes

Yes they definitely existed! This is my great grandparents on my paternal mother’s side in the late 1930s. We are a sturdy stock…

They also made they’re own clothes a lot back then too which was cool

I have wondered about this! There is so much conflicting information about how it “used to be”. Wasn’t there a decade that adored curves?

I’d love to see some videos on the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s for plus size women!

There’s something about rewatching Christina Hendrix’s character in Mad Men that has inspired me so much lately to embrace my curves and dress up more.

Being bigger runs in my family. Not just heavy, although most of us are prone to weight gain, but being broad shouldered and wide hipped too. That being said, my plus size vintage is all hand me downs from grandparents, great grandparents, and a personal favorite of mine came from my great aunt!
