Funeral potatoes because it's an easy dish to take to a grieving family for them to re-heat so they don't have to cook.

You need shredded potatoes OR cubed. Not the hasbrowns there. Sincerely someone who has eaten TRAYS of that stuff growing up

Extra sharp cheddar is the secret—also using actual shredded hash browns (frozen section). I’ve made a bazillion pans of these and never use the corn flakes

As someone from Utah (I think the popular version was invented here) we eat this at funerals because you can make a lot easily!

cornflakes can also be replaced with the crispy fried onions depending on the family 😅

Can I recommend Cream of Onion soup….adds the most flavor. Also thaw your shredded or cubed potatoes and season them well before mixing with other ingredients (salt, pepper, onion & garlic powder)

Funeral potatoes because they feed a crown. You should use shredded frozen hashbrown. Or the frozen cubed ones.

It's called funeral potatoes because in the midwestern states it's traditional to bring food to the grieving family food so they don't have to worry about cooking for a while and still have something to eat.

That isn’t hash browns as ingredient, and you then turned them into tatter tots, which is fine, just not traditional at all

Mother-In-Law makes these and calls them party potatoes because it sounds nicer and she tops them with crushed up potato chips instead of cornflakes. delicious!

They should be shredded hashbrown potatoes. Or you can shred fresh parboiled potatoes.

Better to use or either hashbrowns that are loose in the package. They’re called funeral potatoes because in the southern United States people would take this recipe to the wake after the funeral at someone’s home.
