Lennox Castle?? If so...its is eerie enough on its own, but the smaller outbuilding in the woods is what really changes the atmosphere. That ruin appears to be Woodhead House, the older 16th century tower house on the estate, left behind as a deliberate ruin when the grander Lennox Castle was built in the 1800s. So this is not just one abandoned place. It is an older ghost of the estate sitting beside the later castle. Then the later history makes it even heavier. Lennox Castle became tied to the hospital and to one of the darkest parts of Scottish institutional history. BBC covered the story of Hughie McIntyre, who said he was sent there as a confused teenager and never understood what he had done to deserve it. He was adopted as a baby, later placed in Lennox Castle, and never saw his adoptive parents again. That is why the outbuilding matters. It makes the whole site feel layered, like one age of history decayed into the next. You have the hidden old ruin in the trees, the later castle falling apart behind it, and then the human tragedy that gave the place its real weight. Lennox is not just spooky because it looks gothic. It feels haunted because the history is stacked on top of itself.

My mum used to work in here, she was a hairdresser and would be called up to cut some of the patients hair at times when the houses that are now called Castle Circle were the old wards. :)
