Guys you do know artists couldn’t just paint Jesus however they wanted right? For centuries, churches had rules and traditions for how Jesus should be portrayed. Artists followed specific visual symbols so people could instantly recognize Him. In the Eastern Orthodox Church these rules were very strict, and painters often copied earlier icons instead of inventing new ones. It’s like that for consistency and theology, so the image clearly communicated who Jesus was. That’s why many paintings of Jesus across centuries look identical.

He actually hasn’t been. I don’t know where you got that from but bearded Jesus wasn’t fully accepted until around the 13th century and he wasn’t even depicted bearded until 3rd century.
