The not finishing the plate thing is sooo huge. Ive lost 20 pounds just by eating till im full and not making myself finish the plate.

Might I suggest as an option, if you are struggling with the ingrained need to finish your plate, start with a smaller serving and go back for more if you need/want 🙂

I was forced to finish everything on my plate as kid. If I didn’t, I’d be stuck at the table to 2-3 am sometimes. As an adult, I developed a binge eating disorder, and forced myself to eat even when full. Trying to unlearn these habits now!

Food sensitivity is definitely real. It’s called allergies.

My body is not a substitute for a trash can. It is okay to throw it away in an actual trash can instead. The trash can will not gain weight, feel ill, or feel bad about itself, but I probably will if I force myself to finish something "because I should." Heard this thought on a thread years ago, stuck with me.

food sensitivity tests arent exactly a scam. it depends on what youre using them for. ive had a few done and they help ID some random allergies that we couldn't figure out. now did I have to go through a billion ones to figure it out and that is annoying? yes. found out im allergic to apples for random migraines and I'm still allergic to this day and same with kiwis (which i loved). it also highlighted some issues that could've been a red flag for thyroid issues we werent aware of. but again, the reasoning and why is super important!

to be clear, some people need some supplements. that's not what they're saying. but people who have not been told they have any deficiencies or increased needs by a doctor... do not need supplements.

Food allergies are so infuriating because you go in and say “I want to discuss my nut allergy”. They give you a pokey test and it pops every nut, plus shrimp, plus dairy, plus plus plus plus and you’re like “but I love shrimp I eat it all the time and I’m fine”

The not finishing your plate thing. Ugh. It’s sooooo hard. It was beaten into me as a kid. A GLP1 is the only thing that allows me to leave food uneaten now . I look at my kids and am so jealous when they just push the plate away. I’m glad I broke the cycle with them at least.

That “clearing my plate” concept really. REALLY, fkd me up…big time (pun intended). I’m still dealing with making changes from this. I’m 42.

That whole clear your plate thing really fucked me up with my relationship to food. I don’t like wasting food so I just put it away for later or tomorrow.

Best thing I ever did for myself was to actually listen to my body and not force myself to eat more or less.

I grew up having to clean my plate and kt definitely had an impact later in life. Also that dessert had to be earned or was a reward. Approached teaching my daughter food equality. dessert went on her plate, because she would often say she was full to get dessert. So if it was on her playe she got to choose when we eat it and usually ate more dinner. Now as she is older we talk about how different food fuel her differently.

One of the most life changing things I did was stop overeating. I was struggling from HORRIBLE acid reflux because instead of eating until I was full I’d eat until my plate was empty. What helped me was lowering my portion sizes and instilling the idea that “if I’m still hungry, I can just get more.” It’s done wonders for my acid reflux problems. Also, learning how to cook an egg. Eggs have become one of my default foods when I don’t know what to eat.
