I will never send my mom to a nursing home. She will live with my sister, her favourite child that got everything. 🥰

People need to not demonize nursing homes. Yes some facilities aren't great but there are plenty of good places that have the know how and resources to care for a sick old person's health that no one person could ever do at home.

My unpopular opinion, the child who takes care of their dementia parent must be paid by other sibling. Say normal helper is paid $2000 and there are 4 siblings. The one who takes care of the parent must be paid at least $1500 by their siblings.

I understand to be prepared, but I believe labeling it as, “The mess my mom left us” could be easily worded as, “Steps to take when your parent has an illness”.

God, that's terrible. I'm so sorry. I know that, should my stepmom die first, I have an LPA for my biomom (they're married) because, even though I'm the youngest, I have the best handle on my life. if my mom or stepmom needed it, I would have them come live with me and my fiancé, and they know they're more than welcome to ask that of us, same with my fiancé's parents, though they all live in warmer climates and we live where it snows. I think it's actually good that you took a sponsorship like this to get the word out!

As someone who went through caring for a family member for the rest of their life beginning when I was only 16, please make and have a plan. Don’t wait until you are older, don’t wait until your kids are old, have one now.

As someone who works at a bank please please please make sure you have a joint of a POD on your account so that if anything were to happen to you, that person can get in and access those funds. Whether it be your parents, a sibling, or your spouse. Someone.

I don't know if you guys have this. but here in my hometown there's a place where you can send them for a while to be taken of with others and pick them up later after work. Like a nursery for kids but it's for older people.

So very different with what I saw about the brothers who actually wanted to care for their mother, and they took it to court to decide which one.

We went through a similar thing last year in my family except there was no money and all siblings either ran or turned on each other. I hope you’re doing alright

My kids better send me to a nursing home, I will never let myself be a burden to them. They have the right to look after themselves, family and life in general. (I work in a old age home) i to them, bring me a iced capp otw to work and ill be happy

its still not too late, as long as you and your brorhers are still around, you can still repair the bridges. Life is too short to hold grudges against loved ones forever

As the oldest and one of 2 children, I will be bearing the burden of taking on both my parents. I’m thankful they’re still both strong and independent atm.
