How do you teach a dog when they are all allergic to everything? I can’t give my dog treats other than carrots. And they can’t give him carrots all day long as they trained him? So I’m stumped about what to do.

You have to factor in breed too. Dachshunds were bred to think independently. They are tough customers, but training can happen!

My dog was an obedience champion. He still ignores me. He was also an agility dog and has run into more furniture and doors than any other dog. He’s 11 and decided that he can’t do it now that we have human children - unless we have snacks. 🙃 Everything you’ve said still applies.

My almost 1 year of dachshund has started to whine a lot and doesn't listen as well as she used to. Any tips for training routines? The intermittent listening happens both inside and outside. she also pulls on the leash and I can't get her to walk without pulling.

One of our gals listens pretty well inside the house except when she hears any of the dogs in our neighborhood outside barking. Her hearing is so sharp I swear she can hear a gnat fart the next town over. Anyway, how do I get her to listen and not bark at those outside noises? I want to start with inside first and then progress to the backyard cuz she really doesn’t mind out there much at all. She knows ‘sit’ but we probably need to work on reinforcing ‘come’. I figure if we get her to respond to those commands reliably then it would cut off the barking, but not sure if that’s the best approach or not. She’s such a good pup otherwise.
