Not sure about other countries, however, in the US they cannot hold you because you can’t pay your final bill. That would be unlawful imprisonment.

They don’t let you leave ! My sister learned the hard way I had to pay her portion before she was able to leave that was with Norwegian Cruise line

How would that happen.they place holds on your card. As you spend they place additional holds. If you card is maxed I thought they would cut you off

he's slightly exaggerating his statements because most cruise lines won't even let you board without some form of payment on file. they're not gonna hold you hostage from leaving the ship. most likely scenario is you'll be banned from that cruise line and any company sails under that umbrella. Further more you could and almost certainly will be banned from any cruise line. Even after said balance has been paid in full there's no guarantee you'll be allowed to cruise again.

So my bank account flagged the charge of fraudulent and when the cruise docked, I was unable to pay they basically just sent me a bill that I had to pay later

I get the drink package so don’t have to worry about a big Bill and pay for the gratuity before the cruise so you don’t have to worry being charged each day.
