This one was actually easy to fall for because it was an official Mattel event. Mattel has had really cool other life-size dream house exhibits in other places in the past. It was very much advertised like it would be something like that.

Serena and Angel both appeared briefly. People were scammed but Mattel linked this event on their site and the official Instagram account for Barbie also advertised it. If anyone’s to blame it’s Mattel for not vetting the event planners or being more involved.
