@myteacherface: Nine of the ten things can be done immediately or quickly in each school. The last one is more of a challenge, but still needs to be changed. #Myteacherface #teachers #publiceducation #education #school
Free breakfast and lunch. It has proven results and is actually one of the most cost efficient ways to improve learning in students.

Smaller class size would have helped me. High school English. 35 in one class and expected to assign essays. Walk the kids through every stage of the writing process and give feedback. I know they had to write in middle school but they act like they can't even write 5 sentence paragraph.

Free breakfast & lunch and adjust the portion sizes depending on grade level. There’s no reason why a senior and a kindergartner should both be getting 4 chicken nuggets

Love ALL of this!!!! 35 years in the classroom. These are all common sense teaching 101. The real question is why aren’t we doing it?

I think one of the additional measures that would help with all of this is making all of these national standards regardless of income of the community. educational resources should be available to every child in the united states without conflating it with capitalistic intentions.

I had a principal who almost always took out a copy of the student handbook when doling out consequences. He would reiterate what was in it and double check to see if it was first offense, second, etc. Every student was held accountable in the same manner. If there were extenuating circumstances, they were taken into consideration. I taught resource room, so was looped in often when my students were involved. Loved it.

Speaking on being held back, my youngest daughter, I had a teacher in pre-K who they had to fire. Somehow, this caused My Daughter to get way behind, and she struggled, and I kept asking him to hold her back hold her back in kindergarten, hold her back first break, hold her back in second grade.I finally threw a big old hissy fit and they held her back in third grade and she is thriving now because she had a chance to catch up.

Schools: Teach kids to research, acquire knowledge, use reputable sources, and base actions and opinions on reputable sources
Also schools: Don't research children's/teachers' needs, don't consult with the literal 100+ reputable sources who all hold massive degrees in their specific fields, and definitely don't base actions upon what said reputable sources (teachers) say is needed to help children learn better and have easier access to their education.

Yes and the school board is responsible for all of this too! Admin are nervous to have high suspension rates because the school board doesn’t “like it.”

The problem with reaching out is the teachers that refuse to respond to calls and emails.m and the principals that ignore you when you try to get more information. Our local school has a terrible problem with ignoring parents.
