Loved Stalker! Chose to study the film while I was in architecture school and analysed the film angles and how it manipulated space in different frames. An example of the plan analysis I did… 11/10 film.

I'm an italian guy, I've been thinking for a while about how to approach Tarkovsky, given his complexity, I think I'll try to watch them in this order

Dude I was literally this close to finally diving into Tarkovsky’s filmography like three days ago… but I held off because you didn’t have one of your GOATed guide videos out yet 😭

Read Stanislaw Lemin’s book first, then watch Solaris. You’ll notice how mediocre the movie is.

Tarkovsky cinema is hidden gem that only shows itself to the ones that can slow themselves to the rhythm of a meditation. It only shows itself when you’re ready. If not, you’ll find it boring. It’s visual poetry

The best way to approach Tarkovsky's films is without expectations. Just piece things together based on what you understand on what you feel and saw. Then you do the research and compare.

I've tried...and I will try again, but what I REALLY need is to watch an annotated version of the films. I need to watch one of his films where a film scholar pauses the film, breaks in, and explains the significance of what is on the screen. Of course this would be to watch after watching the film as intended.

There is no Tarkovsky for beginners. His film, whilst undoubtedly artistic, are an absolute slog for even the most devoted cinephiles. They are the cinematic cure for insomnia
