@itsalexandrakenyon: Southern Prom is a different beast and I love it 👗 Which is more similar to where you live? Oregon or Texas prom??? #prom #promdress #oregon #texastraditions #texasgirl
The majority of senior girl in the US are buying Sherri hill type dresses. It’s out of the norm to go casual to prom

I thought it was formal for all proms. I’m from southern IL and we wore very nice dresses too. I paid 500 for my dress in 2003.

In South Central Kansas Prom is very formal, long dresses, professional hair and makeup, etc. Homecoming is dressed up but not as formal as prom. Shorter dresses and more of a cutesy vibe than an elegant vibe like prom. BUT I do think it varies depending on school and town as well.

🤪😱🤷♀️🤦♀️ :
Texas born and raised and prom is a very big deal. Lots of money on fancy dresses, shoes, hair, makeup, nails, tan etc. and they literally only stay there briefly before heading to the after party.

In 2014 I paid 500 for my daughter’s dress, shoes, jewelry. Another 150 for nails and extensions ( friend did both), 50 for pictures, another 150 or so for miscellaneous stuff. In 1976 my dad bought my prom stuff, dress and shoes-$75. Mine was in Oregon, my daughter’s in Texas.

Man perspective: We are raised to be gentlemen. Proms are an excuse for practice. Give the girl flowers (corsage), greet the parents, treat her like a princess, open the door for her, be super respectful, use good manners, impress the parents and make the girl happy she said “Yes.” And the girl should look so good she makes the poor guy nervous. Welcome to Texas and Baylor.

I’m from Texas, but I live for the time being in Indiana and here it’s pretty much like Texas, but maybe to a little lesser degree

I’m from the Midwest about 45 minutes away from Chicago and yes it was very dressy Sherry hill experience, that’s the experience! However, you could also go casual if you wanted, it was a mix!

My kids high school homecoming was full length to the floor gowns just like prom but not full and poofy. Full hair makeup nails purse, heels spray tan. So we had homecoming every year and then prom most years and I have three daughters. 😩😩😩

Texas - MacDuggal dress, hairdresser, tan, nails, pre/ party with professional photographer, greyhound style bus to take to dinner and the venue in downtown Houston, then bus to beach house for the weekend and a group of moms cater & cook for the 18-25 kids for the weekend. Each day has a dress up theme like “Jersey Shore” or “safari”

Super casual here in the mountain states. We live in the middle of nowhere so there’s no shopping. No frills just simple tight evening wear. Sexy, but no lace, glitter or glam. Girls get their nails done, but that’s about it.
