There’s a kind of pain that doesn’t come from the ending itself, but from realizing the version of them you’re holding onto doesn’t exist anymore. You’re not grieving just a person you’re grieving the laughter that felt effortless, the late nights that turned into early mornings, the way silence between you never felt empty, and the version of yourself that believed it would last. And that’s what breaks you in a quiet, heavy way… because your heart keeps replaying memories like they’re promises, like if you just hold on a little tighter, somehow it’ll all come back. But memories don’t come back they visit, they remind, and then they leave you there to face what’s real. The truth is, love was never supposed to feel like confusion, like constantly questioning where you stand, like having to gather proof just to justify your pain. Love doesn’t make you feel like you’re too much one day and not enough the next. And if it took that final piece of proof to finally open your eyes, it’s not because you’re weak it’s because you loved deeply, purely, and you were willing to see the best in someone even when they stopped giving it to you. That’s not something to be ashamed of… that’s something rare. What hurts the most is knowing you didn’t imagine it there really were moments where it felt right, where it felt like home. But not everything that feels like home is meant to be where you stay. Some people are chapters, not the whole story, and no matter how beautiful those pages were, you can’t keep rereading them and expect a different ending. You have to close the book, even if your hands shake while doing it. And letting go… it’s not a single decision, it’s something you’ll have to choose over and over again. It’s choosing not to text them when your chest feels heavy, choosing not to romanticize the version of them that no longer exists, choosing yourself on the days it would be easier to fall back into what’s familiar. It’s painful, it’s slow, and it’s unfair but it’s also the beginning of you finding a love that doesn’t leave you questioning your worth.
