Those lug nuts were already tightened past the spec you set the torque wrench to which is why it’s just clicking and not tightening to the proper spec.

if I torque down lug nuts as hard as I can with the tire iron, is it too much? if I don't have a torque wrench on me how do I tell how tight?

I’ve never torqued to spec I just impact on with a 1/2 inch gun rq. Also you’re not doing anything with that torque wrench that gun already torqued them way past their specified spec which is why you’re torque wrench is clicking without even making a turn…

I can set the torque on the app for my impact so I use the impact

I always use a impact. I have a Milwaukee high torque and on mode 2 it breaks lugs loose with ease so a ugga and maybe a dugga is plenty tight enough for cars and crossovers for trucks and big SUV’s I give it another half second of hur dur gun go burr

Torque stick on impact and then final torque with torque wrench, only way to keep me from second guessing at the end of the day

Trust the torque stick, if you don’t trust your tools why you buying them?

at walmart this is done three times by at least two people, and the third time is after driving a figure 8. makes a two minute task tops take 10 minutes minimum

Don't need to torque in star pattern if gunned on in star pattern.

You should be torquing every bolt

FYI broski, If the lug nut doesn’t move slightly before clicking, you don’t actually know how much torque you’ve put on it. Could have 120lbs on an 80lb spec for all you know. Which ain’t good for the studs.

Sloss Iron & Steel Co. :
People that don’t properly torque them wonder why they get bad wheel vibrations and warped rotors in 6 months or leaking gaskets and have to warranty the work, also the reason I never take my cars to a shop, 98% “mechanics” never touch a torque wrench. Impacts will put 150+ foot pounds on a 90 foot point lug…. Torque specs are literally there for a reason.
