Maida Nuzhat, whose original name was Maida Jassim Muhammad Al-Azzawi, was born in the Al-Karkh district of Baghdad in 1937. She grew up and was educated in its schools. After completing the memorization of the Quran, she moved to primary school, where her singing talents emerged from childhood when she used to memorize and repeat the songs of Umm Kulthum, Farid Al-Atrash, Asmahan, and Laila Murad.She applied for a radio audition in Baghdad in 1950 and passed, later becoming one of the most famous singers on Iraqi radio. During that period, she recorded a number of Iraqi songs composed by Ahmed Al-Khalil and Nazim Naeem, such as the songs

She had moved to America in 2014 from Cairo. The Ministry of Culture posted a large black banner on the exterior wall of its headquarters on Haifa Street in central Baghdad, which read, "The Ministry of Culture mourns the great Iraqi artist, Maida Nuzhat."
