As a stylist, I use a simple formula: class, edge, and ease — the three forces of cool. In corporate environments, class is easy — you’re already wearing blazers, shirts, and trousers. But how do you add edge and ease without breaking dress code? 3 levers to pull: 1. Shoes & Accessories Keep your outfit classic, but add edge through shoes, bags, or jewelry. Try a funky flat, modern heel, or pop of color. Fun socks with classic shoes. A bag that breaks up the vibe. Silk scarves, statement jewelry, lacy shirt details. 2. Proportions An outfit looks stiff if everything is fitted, sloppy if everything is oversized. Aim for at least one item with a relaxed fit. Roll your sleeves. If allowed, work in one casual item: tee under a suit, sneakers with trousers, jeans with blazer and fancy shoes. 3. Elevated basics Shirts, blazers, and trousers don’t have to be boring. Look for asymmetric pieces, interesting necklines, cinched waists. Try feminine lady jackets, mandarin style jackets. Swap trousers for a black maxi skirt or silky skirt. You don’t need a new wardrobe to look cool at work. You just need to know which force you’re missing.
