@drabby6: 1. Psoriasis is a result of rapid skin cell replication causing thick silver scaley areas of skin. While most common on the elbows, knees, and scalp, it can be on other areas of skin including folds of the skin and nails. 2. Psoriasis is not contagious or infectious. It can be triggered by injury, infection, stress and other environmental and genetic factors. 3. It can associated with psoriatic arthritis, pain, stiffness or swelling in the joints, usually worse in the morning. If psoriatic arthritis isn’t treated it can result in permanent damage of the joints. 4. It’s a chronic skin disease that can be managed but not cured. Treatments are mostly prescription with both topical and systemic options including light therapy. Over the counter treatment for mild psoriasis include 3% salicylic acid. 5. Psoriasis is associated with heart disease, heart attack and stroke. The risk is related to the severity of the skin disease. If you have psoriasis it’s important to stay on top of your normal blood pressure and cholesterol screenings. #psoriasis #dermatologist

Could you do a video on the arthritis aspect of the disease. I know your a derm but As a someone who has had it since I was about 10 (am 46 now) there is a serious luck of education in regards to it. Even with doctors. People need to know about it and that psoriasis can cause it. It’s changed my life completely in the last 11 years. I failed the methotrexate, the biologics (Australian government only subsidise 5 then it’s a 5 year wait to try again) and even steroids which I didn’t know was possible. It’s a cruel disease.
