Mr. Winston is a rare man. He is a permanent resident because of how rare he is! Turkey Vultures and Black Vultures are highly social and intelligent birds. That means, like many species who prioritize social hierarchy, they are prone to discrimination. Winston was a victim of this discrimination due to his appearance. Winston looks different from other vultures with his white feathers, bright red skin, and blue eyes. His community was not nice to him, not allowing him to join in on meals. He arrived at our hospital as a patient, very skinny and full of parasites. He improved and was introduced to Hudson, a habituated vulture, who immediately accepted Winston and became a fast friend. Our Winston has been with us 25 years next month! He has earned his spot as leader of our vulture group and can be seen along our public walking trail when you come by for a visit. #wildlifehospital #wildliferehab #wildliferescue #bird #vulture
