We all call it a fruit, but botany disagrees. What you eat is the swollen receptacle of the strawberry flower. The real fruits are those tiny yellowish dots on the surface.
Each dot is called an achene. Each achene is a true fruit containing one seed. So one strawberry is actually hundreds of tiny fruits attached to modified flower tissue.
In most fruits like apples or peaches, the flesh grows from the ovary. Strawberries flip that. The red, juicy part evolved to attract animals and spread seeds.
A small detail that completely changes how we see something ordinary. Nature doesn’t follow our labels. It follows its own rules.
