He died in 1969 before the war ended, but in 1975 Vietnam was reunified under communist rule, and the former city of Saigon was renamed Ho Chi Minh City in his honor. He is widely regarded in Vietnam as a national hero for leading the fight for independence, though his legacy remains debated internationally due to his role in communist governance and prolonged conflict.
