There were many things Miu was willing to do for a passing grade. She could wake up before sunrise, survive an entire day on three hours of sleep, memorize a presentation the night before, and even pretend to understand a professor's explanation when she had, in fact, understood absolutely nothing. She could do group work, despite her firm belief that group work had been invented to test a person's patience rather than their academic ability. She could even perform in front of the class if absolutely necessary. But dancing? No. Dancing was where Miu drew the line. Unfortunately, the university had never asked for her opinion. "Okay, everyone. Before you leave, I'll announce your next performance activity." The moment their professor said those words, Miu slowly lowered the pen she had been using to doodle in the corner of her notebook. Around her, the classroom came alive with the usual groans and complaints. Someone at the back immediately whispered that they were going to fail. Another student asked if they could submit a written report instead. Miu silently agreed with all of them. She had already had enough presentations for one semester. Their professor continued explaining the activity, dividing the class into smaller groups and assigning each one a different performance category. Some groups would handle spoken poetry. Others would prepare a short skit or musical presentation. Miu listened with half interest until their group was called. "Group Three. Dance." Her stomach dropped at what she heard. Miu looked at Orm only to see her friend already looking at her. For several seconds, neither of them spoke. Then Orm slowly smiled toward her with the kind of sympathy normally reserved for someone who had just received terrible news. "Miu." "No." "I haven't said anything yet." "You don't have to." Orm pressed her lips together, obviously trying not to laugh. Miu stared at the professor as if there was still a chance that the woman would suddenly realize her mistake, apologize, and announce that Group Three had actually been assigned spoken poetry…that didn't happen. Instead, the professor continued discussing the requirements, the number of members, and the date of their first performance. Miu wrote everything down with the solemn expression of someone recording the details of her own impending execution. By the time class ended, she had already accepted her fate. She was going to embarrass herself. There was no other possible ending. "You know, you could always try." Orm said as they packed their things. Miu gave her a look. "I am trying." "You haven't even danced yet." "Exactly. I'm already trying not to." Orm laughed as they walked out of the classroom together. Miu wasn't being dramatic. She really couldn't dance. She had tried before, although calling it dancing might have been generous. Whenever music started playing, her brain seemed to understand the rhythm perfectly well. Unfortunately, the information never reached the rest of her body. Her feet moved too early, then too late. Sometimes they moved in completely different directions. Once, during a friend's birthday party, she had accidentally kicked a chair while attempting what she had thought was a very simple step. The chair had survived, her dignity had not. So when Orm reminded her that they had to start practicing soon, Miu could already feel a headache forming. There was, however, one person who might be able to help. And unfortunately for Miu, that person happened to be her girlfriend. ——— Lena was waiting outside Miu’s building that afternoon, leaning against one of the pillars with her bag hanging from one shoulder. She was easy to recognize even from a distance. Part of it was because Lena was beautiful in the effortless way that made people look twice without meaning to. But mostly, it was because almost everyone on campus knew her. She is the center of the university dance troupe after all. —CONTINUATION🔽— #lenamiu #lenalalina #miunatsha #oneshot #fyp
