as a student, you shouldn't fail them, not because they could have cheated but because you have no proof. things could get tricky down the line if they consult the principal

Just make a quick reunion and ask them about their essay. Even if they used AI, if they can still defend their essay, it means they learnt what was needed.

I’d fail them honestly, especially if it’s in a lower grade (like 7th or 8th) because it’s not about the finished product, but for the student to practice coming up with their own conclusions, conducting their own research, and knowing how to properly format a professional essay

These AI-detecting AIs always flag my writing as 95-98% AI generated. I haven't AI generated a sentence in my life. However, I've been a fanfiction writer for many years. AI literally stole and learned from ME - all of my posted works were scraped - not the other way round! 😭
