Linguistically, doesnt Dinosaur translate from Latin as 'Terrible Lizard"? I think your average person could assume reptilians (and the like) would be dinosaurs 🤷🏼♂️

dinosaurs should be applied to ancient vaguely lizardy creatures. in this case dimetrodon yes and modern birds no. definitely not mammoth

people know it's a clade, right? the clade dinosauria? it doesn't mean anything extinct, not just anything extinct and reptilian, but it refers to reptiles within the clade of dinosauria

one time I made my sister angry. she made dinosaur nuggets and dinosaur waffles for dinner, but she made sure that I only got the pterodactyl ones because, and I quote, "you don't deserve dinosaurs, you deserve prehistoric reptiles."

A tube of rubber animals i bought recently for my kid was labeled "insects." It had a spider, scorpion, and centipede, and I thought "I'll give that a pass. Many would call those 'bugs'." But looking further, there was also a rat, a frog, and a bat... No... I guess they're calling all creepy crawlies "insects"?

eh to me its like how "bug" is referring scientifically to a specific type of animal but if I was to make a bag of toy "bugs" I wouldnt be surprised if spiders and other arachnids were in there like yup thats a bug
