It's hard to get a straight answer from Labor MPs about how data centres will actually benefit our communities. With billions of dollars being invested into building data centres from companies like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon, it seems like the government is rolling out the red carpet rather than asking what ordinary Australians think. Residents have serious concerns around data centre energy usage, land usage, air quality, noise pollution, and the lack of affordable housing in our communities. But Labor has been more focused on fast-tracking data centre approvals and meeting with AI CEOs. The Greens are pushing for a ban on data centre construction until regulation is in place.
