@brandon.nicolasg: One of the most common questions I get is whether becoming a firefighter is actually worth it. People hear about the low pay, the lack of sleep, the stress, and they start to question it. And before the comments roll in about “you guys just sleep all day,” yeah, I know there are departments with lower call volume that have that luxury. I’m talking about the ones that don’t. The ones running their a$$es off, training, & getting to it each shift. There’s no denying this job is tough. It takes a toll physically, mentally, and emotionally. You see things most people never will. You deal with stress, long hours, and the kind of fatigue that doesn’t just go away with one good night of sleep. But even with all of that, it’s worth it. It’s the brotherhood. It’s the growth you go through as a person. It’s knowing you’re part of something bigger than yourself. It’s showing up for your community on their worst days and being someone they can count on. I’ve always wanted to be part of something greater than me. I’ve always wanted that kind of bond where you trust the people next to you with your life, no questions asked. That’s what firefighting is to me.
