Spider-Man 2 was the first and only open-world game set in a fully realized New York City where you could freely web-swing around the buildings with that (for its time) smooth and realistic momentum-based system of swinging that really made you feel like Spider-Man. You were no longer restricted by the linearity of the game’s levels and invisible walls that would appear during your swings from rooftop to rooftop. You could descend to street-level, solve crimes randomly generated, and live the life of your friendly neighborhood superhero.
