@itssuhaa: I’m sure there’s more nuance to this but if the opener doesn’t match the headliner’s energy, I’m bored/tired by the time the headliner comes on #edm #dj #edmtiktok #rave #festival
I’m on levity’s side BUT your take is so wrong. Chris Lake is arguably one of the most important figures of all time, one of the best DJs of all time and one of the best producers (and ghost producer) of all time.

I always thought the opener was t supposed to go all out to keep the crowd there all night. A lot of people don’t have the energy to go all out the whole night. So opener warms them up gets them in the mood to stay the whole time. Definitely roles for different times. I think a closing dj is equally as important as the opener as well. Providing a soft landing where everything comes to a conclusion.

Don’t book that person if their usual set is heavier than the headliner 😂 it’s literally that simple

In house music there’s an energy flow that should be acknowledged and respected, because it’s easy to have a night full of big energy but then when the headliner gets up all the energy is gone because everyone uses their top tier bangers. Dubstep is another story, u can have a hyped show all night with energy levels never peaking over the top cuz the headliner can have the hardest tracks that night and everyone else is just getting the crowd hyped. Idk it all depends on the artist and the genre cuz there’s levels to this

Hi, Dj here and I program events. There is an etiquette to how a night progresses. There are a lot of egos in DJing that serve themselves instead of being in service to the dancefloor.

It’s not really a beef levity saying support the new guys Chris Lake saying you can’t always do that in all genres. There’s a certain temple for house music that if you go crazy in the beginning, it’s just gonna be stagnant the rest of the night but techno dubstep rhythm base house. You can go hard at the beginning and go back to back banger after banger banger if that makes sense.

Openers set the mood for the main set…. Nothing worse than counting down the minutes until the main act bc you’re bored

Imagine it like this you’re having a dinner and you’re appetizer is greasy French fries and cheesy nachos then the main course is chicken wings it’s all delicious and works. Now imagine if you had greasy French fries and cheesy nachos before having a delicate caviar and sushi main course. The sushi won’t be good because your palate is just tuned wrong. Sometimes it’s the same with music. Some party’s are great with the energy at 100 but the nuance here is sometimes a headline dj wants to give you an artistic journey that would get the vibe ruined if the opener didn’t curate the right vibe. Everyone has different preference for how they want to party, but there is an art to it. Are french fries more delicious than sashimi sometimes yes sometimes no, the more important thing is they are just way different foods

Why are people calling this a beef it's just a disagreement in approach and a bunch of insecure bass heads indignant that a guy who's been around for decades doesn't know the music of a newgen american dubstep act. For some types of electronic music it's not about just "going hard" it's about a journey and experience. Even if an artist does a solo like 4-8 hour set they not going to go peak energy the entire time. the promoter and whoever running the event should curate and book the talent accordingly and the onus is on them but it's a reasonable take.

I think it’s important for people to recognize that a huge part of a promoter’s job is curating the vibe ! Artists are typically meant to be booked for the energy THEY bring in their project, they aren’t supposed to be booked to fit a mold of what someone else thinks they should be. A promoter should be booking openers who they feel fit the vibe as they are, and will be a good match , without having to nerf their own energy for the sake of anyone else👍🏻
