I'm an agnostic and my position is the most logical. I just don't know.

Ctg22853 :
Logic exists as the fundamental structure of valid reasoning, acting as a necessary tool for organizing thought, distinguishing truth from falsehood, and interpreting the world. It serves both as an innate cognitive capacity for survival and an objective framework for science, mathematics, and communication.

Logic and math are an abstraction from how nature works. If 1≠1 in nature we would have that concept instead. 🤷

If these logical principles are “thoughts” God has (let’s set aside the issue of what it would even mean for God to have a “thought), are you saying they are contingent? The principle of identity could have not been a thing, or stop being a thing tomorrow if God thought otherwise? God could think A and ¬A if they wanted to?

Colby LeRoy :
Logic is the language of cause and effect. It was created by humans to describe and predict the universe, much like how math is a language used to quantify the universe. If the universe were different, logic and math would be different to match it. Your argument is basically “If things were different, they wouldn’t be the same,” which says nothing.

Atheist here, and this is easy to respond to...
The three laws of logic (identity, non-contradiction, and excluded middle) are descriptive principles that HUMANS have identified to explain how reasoning works—they don't require a divine source any more than mathematical patterns do. These laws can be understood as inherent features of reality or as conventions of coherent thought that emerge from the nature of existence itself, without necessitating a supernatural explanation. Just as gravity exists without needing a deity to sustain it, logical principles can be viewed as brute facts about how propositions relate to one another.

begging the question: how did you establish that these universal laws of logic were established by a divine being and more specifically, your god.

Just because we don’t know why logic exists isn’t proof that god exists. We may uncover the answer next month through science and then you will move your goalposts again.

They're descriptions of how the world appears to work, they weren't "created" and they don't "exist." All logic requires is that the universe we exist in is coherent and consistent, so long as that remains true there is no need for a god.
