I’m so sorry, that’s awful! I’ve had bed bugs before in Chicago and know that biting pests cause significant trauma. A vacuum with a bag makes a huge difference when you move and can give you some reassurance that you won’t bring the mites with you when you move in addition to isolating and washing/freezing/steaming all belongings

the Chicago RLTO has strong tenant protections outlined in it, as well as responsibilities and remedies. Your first step of action is going to be exercising your rights under that law and sending the 14-day notice. chicago orgs that could help in this situation: Law Center for Better Housing CARPLS, Metropolitan Tenants Org. you'll need to send LCBH also has a free online tool called Rentervention that will help you draft a letter to your landlord and send it certified mail. much of this can be done legally and within the law without a lawyer, but these orgs can help you make sure you're doing it right.

Reach out to a couple lawyers who specialize in tenant rights because they will very likely be able to get you out of your lease and help you sue for damages. I would also look at getting your own pest control and see if they can do anything about this and then the lawyer can help you sue for the cost of that as well.
