@inceptiontravelers: Naples’ most haunting hidden gem has finally reopened to the public 🪦 Hidden inside an old tuff cave in the Rione Sanità, the Cimitero delle Fontanelle is home to thousands of anonymous human remains 💀 But this place is not just a cemetery - it tells one of Naples’ most fascinating traditions: the cult of the “anime pezzentelle”, the poor souls. For centuries, locals would come here to “adopt” an unknown skull, known as a capuzzella. They would clean it, pray for it, bring flowers, and ask the soul for protection, luck, or help in return 🍀 Many of the bones came from overcrowded cemeteries, churches, epidemics, and moments of crisis in Naples’ history.
