@thewellbeingscientist: this post is going to bring up some very visceral feelings. and I encourage you to sit with the tension named without centring your own discomfort to ponder this question: how do people and systems work together? as a mental health and well-being researcher, I have learned that the harder pill to swallow is not a simple explanation. As with any complex health topic, it is complex. But from what I have observed, the people who are making the most meaningful change, are the ones who can hold both truths: that people and systems must work together. They do not act in isolation. if we are using all our energy pointing the finger at anyone else and not taking accountability in our own lives, in our own relationships how can we expect others to do the same? in the same breath, if we are so hyper-focused on building resiliency and making empowering choices and having a growth mindset without also contributing to dismantle systems in a material way, how do we expect others to find liberation?
