At first family member is on the call light for simple stuff like water and blankets but starts asking for more like picking up her doordash order, dropping her off at the main entrance bc she has a dialysis appointment at 5am, and needing to use the toilet. At this point it’s like having an extra patient. I understand having grace and being kind but there comes a point where the family member can have a safety event due to being blind and requiring assistance. I let my manager know family is getting to be a little too much and explained. Manager was unaware of this and said it’s 11pm so we’re not going to kick her out but tomorrow people will talk to her. I come in the next day (Saturday), and she is still there. No one talked to her. No managers on the floor on weekends. She asked to use the toilet again around 4am and that’s when I told charge to let house supervisor know. I was feeling pressured from my coworkers telling me that if she falls, it’ll be on me. House supervisor came and talked to her saying she has to go in the morning, no exceptions. House manager then talked to the rest of us nurses mostly directing it to me about how this was even allowed in the first place. I defended myself saying I let my manager know the first day I had her what was going on and that whoever was supposed to talk to her this morning never did. I’m feeling a ton of emotions like guilt for the family member, irritated at days for not contacting supervisor when I told her during report that someone should be coming, irritated that it was allowed before I even had the patient (pt spent a night in ED before being transfer on my unit during dayshift), mad at the supervisor for making me feel like I didn’t do enough, annoyed at my aid for being reluctant to help me with family member to and from toilet #nurse #nursing #rn #nursetok #hospital
