A pregnancy was developing… but not inside the womb. A blood sample was taken for a serum pregnancy test, and the result confirmed what the ultrasound showed: She was pregnant. But this was not a normal pregnancy location. It was an ECTOPIC PREGNANCY. An ectopic pregnancy happens when a fertilized egg implants and grows outside the uterus, most commonly inside the fallopian tube, instead of inside the womb where a baby normally develops. It is important to know that being on family planning greatly reduces the chance of pregnancy, but no method is 100% effective. Also, abdominal pain during pregnancy or a missed period should not always be ignored or assumed to be ulcer. Early ultrasound and proper medical evaluation can help detect problems early and protect a woman’s health. Listen to your body.
