No matter what the award title given to Dylan was actually meant to imply, Shen Yue and the entire Inn cast should still reflect on their actions. Friends joke around all the time, but that doesn’t automatically mean the other person will find it funny. Teasing between friends is normal, but you also need to be mindful of who you’re joking with and how they might feel. Shen Yue acknowledged that she was wrong and publicly apologized to Dylan. From her statement, it’s pretty clear that there was never any “group chat dedicated to talking behind Dylan’s back.” The “group” mentioned on the show was simply a joke. In reality, the only group chat that excluded Dylan was one Yue created specifically to organize the cast to support his movie by booking out a theater. Given that explanation, I think people should be willing to move on. Anyone who has followed Yue for a long time knows that she is an emotional, thoughtful, and considerate person who genuinely cares about those around her. Personally, I don’t believe she had any bad intentions toward Dylan, nor do I think she was trying to isolate, bully, or secretly target him the way some antis are making it seem. If Shen Yue had truly treated Dylan badly all this time, wouldn’t there have been signs long before now? Even so, Dylan’s post was irresponsible. The show was filmed back in February. If he genuinely felt uncomfortable about the award, he had plenty of opportunities to address it privately with his colleagues. Instead, he chose to post publicly at 2 a.m. about how the situation made him feel. Even though he never mentioned Shen Yue by name, everyone knew she played a major role in planning the award segment in Inn. Was an award title that made him uncomfortable worth triggering this level of cyberbullying against someone he has known for nearly a decade? At this point, I just hope Shen Yue stays strong and gets through this. No matter how you look at it, this has been an expensive lesson for her about boundaries, communication, and being more careful with how jokes are perceived.
