The “Land of the Free” holds 25% of the world’s prison population. The American story is about striving for a “more perfect union”, which sounds like political jargon, but it’s actually true. All we’ve ever done is push and push and push to hold America to its promise of democracy and life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Did we think our shadow—fascism—would go down without a fight? The reason so many people can see it and recoil from it now is because we’ve dragged it out of the shadows! Finally! It’s like see!!
